CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. JAMES SHIELDS!
 

James Shields is the new manager of the African American Cultural Arts and History Center in Burlington NC. 

 

Prior to this latest appointment, he served for 20 years as the director of the Bonner Center for Community Service and Learning at Guilford College.  

 

James’ community involvement includes being Chairman of the board for Snow Camp Historical Society, Elimu Empowerment services and the non-profit Motherland International. He currently serves as Vice President of the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society. 

 

For over 20 years he has given numerous dramatic  presentations and lectures on the Underground Railroad to local schools and civic groups. James served as one of the lead guides for Underground Railroad tours conducted on the Guilford College campus.  He is also known for his work as an actor and director in the drama produced by Snow Camp Outdoor theatre, Pathway to Freedom which depicts the history of the Underground Railroad in Guilford and Alamance counties. 

 

James has been a performing artist for over 40 years in various theatrical productions and currently is a member of the reggae band, Dubfire.

Shineece Sellars has been a member of the board since it's inception. She is the daughter of Jane Sellars, founder of the Center. She received her Bachelors from Appalachian State University in accounting and business management. She has worked in the accounting field for several years before transitioning into financial services. She currently is a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones. She partners with individuals and small businesses to build and manage wealth. Her passion has been to help educate the African American community on strategies to build wealth. It is her goal to help grow the organization to expand it's reach to young and old members of the community.
